Métissages Urbains, a public event created by Exeko for Welcome to This Place, saw professional artists and community members work collaboratively to create art of various forms displayed in Square Cabot – a public space that holds meaning and importance for a variety of people. Residents from different backgrounds cross Square Cabot everyday—from Inuit communities to newcomers and asylum seekers who are accommodated at the YMCA residences near the square. The project took shape through a reflection on social transformation with the aim of fostering relationships between all levels of society. Métissages Urbains created opportunities for artists to engage on a new platform—the street, where all citizens come together, marginalized or not.
